31CrV2, 1.2208 - specification and application

Cold working tool steel for basic everyday mechanical tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets. Water-hardening steel.


Mechanical properties:

  • Annealed condition +A: <220 HB
  • Hardness after hardening: 52-54 HRC
  • Hardness after tempering at temperature:
    • 100C = 52 HRC
    • 200C = 50 HRC
    • 300C = 47 HRC
    • 400C = 43 HRC
    • 500C = 44 HRC

Heat treatment

  • Softening annealing at 700 +/-20C with air cooling
  • Hardening at a temperature of 845 +/-15C with water cooling
  • Stress relief annealing at a temperature of 665 - 15C
